A Message from the Principal

Here we are in the second week in Advent. During Advent we also celebrate LIFE! Jesus' mother, Mary, is a central focus of the season as we remember her willingness to say "YES" to God. Think about this: Tradition holds that Mary was a young woman, probably about 15 years old, who was betrothed to a man, Joseph. One night, Mary is awakened and is confronted by a heavenly messenger, the Angel Gabriel. Imagine how frightened she must have been! Then, on top of that, Gabriel tells her that she has been chosen to be the mother of Jesus. Mary, having been set apart by God from her birth and who remained sinless throughout her life, did not hesitate to say "yes." She didn't have to, and that is the beauty of the story. Mary could not have known the heartache and sorrow she would face by becoming the mother of Jesus, but God knew and he chose a young, innocent girl to be the vessel by which His Son was to enter the world.

Mary is THE prime example of what it means to accept God's will and to trust in Him. SHE, Mary, is the Immaculate Conception. Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin and, therefore, always, from the moment of her conception, had the sanctifying grace normally reserved for those who are baptized. We celebrate Mary as the Immaculate Conception on December 8.
